General Info

Nepal - the land of snow giants, temples and monasteries, characterised by grandiose mountain massifs.

Around 30 million people from over 40 different ethnic groups with their own languages and cultures populate this small country. Situated between the two Asian superpowers India and China (Tibet), Nepal is a country of diversity,

where the combination of opposites in nature and tradition is commonplace. Jungle and high mountain ridges, Buddhism, Hinduism and ancient nature religions can all be found in this unique kingdom.

Since its opening in the 1950s, the mountain region in Nepal has acted like a magnet for mountaineers, adventurers and travellers - and with good reason. They all may well be attracted primarily by the desire to see the world's highest mountain with their own eyes. Mount Everest, however, is only one of countless spectacular peaks in the Himalayan Mountains. Entry requirements

You can get your visa at the Nepalese Embassy and at one of the Honorary Consulates or ONLINE BY ARRIVAL. (You can request application forms directly from us.) Before entering the country, register ONLINE, go to the counter, pay visa fees in euros, stamp and you're done! No matter how, you need a passport valid for at least 6 months and a passport photo. The visa fees depend on the length of your stay and the number of entries. A stay of up to 15 days - without re-entry - currently costs € 35. 

You will also need an international driving licence, which you can get - without any problems - at your local road traffic office.

    

Nutrition & Health

As in all of Asia, do not drink unboiled water in Nepal! It is best to drink mineral water or soft drinks such as Coca Cola. But beer is also drinkable ;-)

Some vaccinations are recommended. However, these are not compulsory. For more detailed information, please contact your nearest tropical institute. We recommend that you brush up on tetanus and polio if necessary. A hepatitis A vaccination is also advisable. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for southern Nepal. However, the best protection is not to be bitten by mosquitoes in the first place. As the anti-malarial drugs are extremely harmful and do not protect against malaria, we recommend taking vitamin B tablets (one daily in the morning and one in the evening) in combination with Autan. By taking vitamin B, the body emits a smell that mosquitoes cannot stand (by the way, it is hardly noticeable to humans). Start taking it already one week before the trip. Of course, we cannot guarantee this method, but it has always worked for us.

When it comes to food, the rule is "eat the food typical of the country"! Pure enjoyment - but you should hold back on meat dishes, as the local preparation of meat takes a lot of getting used to.

The switch from Western to Asian cuisine is unavoidable, although we will also enjoy simple vegetarian dishes and specialities from the regions we visit on several occasions during the tours. Breakfast and dinner are always included in the tour price and are taken together. Unfortunately, a hearty breakfast is not always possible. Especially when staying overnight in tents! Nevertheless, we will always try to provide varied cuisine, especially local specialities. In general, little meat is eaten in Nepal, if at all, then mostly chicken, but more vegetables, pulses and rice. Nepalese cuisine is well-seasoned, not too spicy and generally well-tolerated.

During the day there will always be the opportunity for small refreshments and snacks, mostly in the simple restaurants of the locals or tea shops along the way.

    

Country & People

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Occasional power cuts, water shortages or insufficient petrol supply are part of everyday life in an underdeveloped country. Every participant should bring along tolerance and understanding for a completely different culture.

A melting pot of cultures and peoples, made up of over 101 ethnic groups, we find influences from Indian Arabic, Tibetan Burmese and Mongolian. Almost every group has its own language and religion. The religions in particular evolved over time into the two main religions - Hinduism and Buddhism. Many Nepalis practise both. It is not uncommon for one and the same temple to be used and for festivals to be celebrated together. Incidentally, the Nepalese celebrate very often (the country with the most public holidays - worldwide!). One thing they all have in common is that they are a very happy people!

     

Traffic 

The adventure begins here. Left-hand traffic - and the most important thing is the horn!

Everything else is just a minor matter. The traffic is "regulated" by honking. Deafening - but it works!

You become addicted to it. Afterwards, it is very difficult to "submit" to the western traffic rules again.
